HP Compaq 8000 Elite is an enterprise standard Personal computer from HP, which is available as SFF (Small Form Factor) PC and Convertible Mini Tower. High configuration hardware and processing power is another advantage of this Product. It has range of storage medium facilities including choices of optical drives. Optical drives are used to access external storage medium and used to store data in optical discs. Compaq 8000 Elite support the leading SATA technology with 16x speed as well as BD (Blue Ray) technology. Common drivers and optical drive related software are packaged as standard software with all supported versions of Windows to Compaq 8000 Elite. What is an optical drive?
Optical drives read and store data in an optical disc like CD (Compact Disk), DVD (Digital Versatile Disc), and BDs (Blu-Ray discs) which hold much more information than classic portable media drives. The Blu-Ray discs are the most recent technology of optical discs and Blu-Ray drives are supported by most of the latest devices. Many optical drives can play and/or record onto a large number of different disc formats. Common formats include CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD, DVD-RAM, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL, BD-R, and BD-RE. All DVD drives supports DVD as well as CD, but in contrast CD drives do not support DVDs. Previous optical disc technologies such as DVD, DVD±R, DVD±RW, and DVD-RAM rely on a red laser to read and write data. The new Blu-Ray format uses a blue-violet laser instead, hence the name Blu-Ray. Despite the different type of lasers used, Blu-Ray products may easily be made backwards compatible with CDs and DVDs through the use of a BD/DVD/CD compatible optical pickup unit.
Different optical drives supported by Compaq 8000 Elite
Compaq 8000 Elite is delivered with a factory fitted DVD writer drive. However, users can replace it with any other types of optical drives. The standard drive is 8X SATA SuperMulti LightScribe DVD Writer slim or 16X SATA SuperMulti LightScribe DVD Writer slim. However, any kind of CD Drives, Combo Drives and Blu-Ray drives and writers could be installed with the latest SATA Bus technology.
There are no much considered software or driver issues with the standard optical drives which are recommended for Compaq 8000 Elite, because the drivers and related software are packaged with Windows. Usually these drives could be installed upon the finishing of operating system setup or restore. If a drive is not working and if it is not a hardware failure, it could be resolved by re-installing the driver software of the drive. Also Intel Advanced host controller driver failure may lead to a malfunctioning of external optical drives. All standard optical drives software are automatically installed by Windows 7 and Vista. However, other supporting software for optical drives may have to be downloaded and installed from official website of HP.
