- Checking the software
- Check the drivers
- Compatibility of operating system
Checking the software
If the touchpad is not working you must restart the system in safe mode and see if it is working. In safe mode only pointer drivers are loaded, not the pointing management software. If it is working then the issue is with the software itself. You are advised to uninstall the software from ‘Add and Remove Programs’. After uninstalling, restart your system. You should install genuine software and should check whether you have installed it correctly. If your device falls in the category of unrecognized drivers, then you should reinstall it properly.
Check the drivers
In safe mode if the pointing device is not working then the problem is with the driver. You are advised to go to the device manager in the control panel. In the device manager select the mouse drive and uninstall the driver. If it falls in unrecognized devices category you have to install the driver once again properly. Each driver supports a particular device. So you must install the software that is recognized by the system.
If you have an old operating system and you install new software it might not work. The new software might not be compatible to run on the old operating system. You could either update the operating system or roll back the driver software for usage. You must update the operating system to avail all the features of the software. Else, you can download the older drivers and software that are compatible to it and install it on your operating system.
