Formatting hard drive
Formatting hard drives is generally done when an installation or reinstallation of any version of Windows® is needed. This is a simple process and you can avoid storage issues, viruses and other difficult issues. Formatting on HP EliteBook 2730p Notebook PC can be done with the guidance of “Formatting and Partition wizard” that comes with Windows®.
You can also format the hard drive through the way as follows. Right click the “My Computer” icon in your notebook or click Start Up menu and select “Manage”. You will have to select “Disk Management” under “Computer Management” popup menu. You can see all the hard drives in a line. First, you will have to delete the existing partitions in the drive that you are going to format. This can be done by right clicking the partition and deleting the partition. Multiple partitions can be deleted by following the above step. Then using the Partition wizard you can easily format the drive that you want. If the drive is fresh you can enable “Perform a quick format box” for fast formatting and for older one you can uncheck this option. Use “NTFS” formatting type, as it is faster and secured. In the volume label field, you can enter the name of the drive.
Formatting through Windows® XP Installation CD
The Windows® XP installation CD can be used when installing fresh Windows® to the notebook. But this operation is used for desktop computers and laptops, which supports booting through CD. It is not possible to boot HP EliteBook 2730p Notebook PC through external drive and therefore you cannot boot through Windows® XP Installation CD. Formatting through Windows® XP installation CD may be possible if BIOS is updated to F.08 or a later version.
While formatting your notebook you lose all data that are stored in the notebook. Therefore, it is very essential to back up data that you might need later. When you are trying to reinstall the Windows® OS, then you will have to check for the availability of application disk or third party hardware that you use. You will have to use them for installing drivers and programs after the re-installation of Windows®.
Each user stores something important under “My Documents” and “Desktop”. You have to transfer all these documents to a CD or DVD or a hard drive, which you will not be formatting.
