EliteBook 8540w is a mobile workstation from HP which caters to the need of mobile professionals. It is a portable powerhouse with workstation-caliber graphics. It has an integrated numeric keypad and a 15.6-inch high-definition display. Its rugged design comes with gunmetal finish. You may choose your graphics card from either NVIDIA or ATI with up to 1 GB of memory. You have a variety of configuration options so as to customize your system for optimal performance. This model comes with an integrated Intel Gigabit network connection. You may, however, face certain networking issues when using your system. In certain cases, you may be unable to connect to different wired or wireless networks. Occasionally, even after establishing the connection you may notice that you get disconnected often. Check network cabling
Loose Ethernet cables and intermittent failure of the Internet Service Provider (ISP) cable service are the two most common causes that lead to disruption in the connection. In such cases, you are required to ensure that the Ethernet cable is properly connected to the PC. If the LED near the Ethernet connector is not glowing, you may try unplugging the cable and then re-plugging it to ensure secured connection. You may also replace the cables if they are damaged.
Check the router and modem
An intact physical connection between the PC and network router is required for the LEDs to light. Even after checking the cable connection, if the browser displays “Cannot find server”, try resetting the router and modem and then restarting the PC. In case of a defective router, you may bypass the Ethernet cable from the PC directly to the modem. If the LEDs on the modem indicate that it is unable to connect to the ISP, you might require contacting the ISP provider for further assistance.
If the LEDs indicate good physical connection and yet your PC is unable to connect to any network, you may verify whether the network LAN connection is properly installed in your system and is adequately enabled. You may also try reinstalling the network drivers. In the Control Panel, you may uninstall the Ethernet adapter. Then on restarting Windows, it will automatically detect the Ethernet adapter available and reinstall the required drivers during the startup process.
