Price-cut triggers demand for HP TouchPad™: HP to produce more to meet demands
Released on July 1 this year, TouchPad, the webOS tablet from HP could not generate the level of consumer interest and attention as was expected. One reason that contributed toward generating this lukewarm response could be the overall movement of HP towards enterprise services, and away from the consumer hardware market that HP specializes in. Owing to the response, HP announced that it would cease TouchPad’s production just after two months of its release. Further, HP also slashed the prices of the two models of this tablet. HP reduced the price of the 16GB tablet by $99 and that of 32GB tablet by $149. But it seems this price-cut did the much-anticipated wonder. Soon after the price-cut, both the models of TouchPad became the most sought after tablets in the market.

Owing to this price-cut, the rise in demand of HP TouchPad became so towering that the entire stock was sold off within days of the announcement. And since the queries for this tablet still continue to flood, HP has decided to produce another lot of TouchPads to fill the gap in demand and supply. There are however no figures that were told as to how much would be the production or when would the lot be available in the market. It seems that the figures will be more than the number of queries and the level of demand that is there right now to avoid further such gaps.
Mark Budgell, HP social media strategist, wrote on his blog, “We can’t promise we’ll have enough for everyone. We do know that it will be at least a few weeks before you can purchase.”
However, the reviews from all those buying the tablet after this price cut will actually clear the situation as to whether the demand for this tablet went up due to the price cut or because of the quality features of the tablet.
