Set-up in HP ProBook® 6545b
Is the set-up configuration disabled in the HP ProBook 6545b notebook PC? Read on to know how to resolve various issues that can occur
HP ProBook 6545b notebook PC is powered by the highly powerful AMD processor. Like all other computers, basic settings like boot configuration, onboard devices settings, system time and date etc are saved in the BIOS set-up. The user can enter the BIOS set-up at the time of system start up and set the boot priority, enable/disable devices, set system date and time as per the requirements. If a device is disabled in BIOS, the operating system will not be able to detect the disabled device. So it is necessary to set an access password to restrict unauthorized access. You would find an option to set a supervisor password in BIOS set-up. Once you set the supervisor password for BIOS, you will be prompted to enter the password when you try to access the BIOS set-up. If you enter an incorrect password you would get the message "Setup configuration is disabled". You get this message even if the BIOS set-up is corrupted.
Following are the tips to resolve the set-up configuration disabled issue in HP ProBook 6545b notebook PC:
- Clear BIOS set-up
- Use BIOS password reset utility
- Flash BIOS
Clear BIOS set-up
Clearing the BIOS set-up is the easiest way to solve set-up configuration disabled issue. All the user defined settings including the supervisor password would be saved in CMOS till the power supplied to the CMOS is stopped. A low voltage power is supplied to the CMOS chip using a CMOS battery that is present on the motherboard of HP ProBook 6545b. You can release and then re-connect the CMOS battery and all user defined settings would be set to factory defaults and supervisor password would be erased. It is highly recommended that you contact a computer technician to clear BIOS because you have to open up the computer case to find the CMOS battery and mishandling could lead to serious system errors.
Use BIOS password reset utility
There are many utilities available for download that you can help you to remove the supervisor password from BIOS. !BIOS is one of the commonly used utility that could help you to remove the supervisor password. You can download and save it on the desktop and then run the downloaded exe file from the command prompt. Sometimes your antivirus program could detect this application as a virus because of its ability to crack password. Once you run the utility you will be provided an option to crack the password and you need to follow the on-screen instructions and then try to access the BIOS.
Flashing BIOS is the process of updating the BIOS program. You can visit the manufacturer's website and then download the suitable BIOS version, run it on the computer and follow the on-screen instructions. This process would update the BIOS set-up and BIOS corruption related issues would be rectified. You need to be very careful when you update the BIOS, the computer should not go off due to power failure or other interruptions while the BIOS update is in process.
